The Natural Attraction of Mayan Riviera
What is called as mayan riviera is actually a district specified for tourism purpose in the eastern part of Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.
Mayan Riviera includes the city of Playa del Carmen, and a composite of Mayan archeological sites sucha as Tulum, Xcaret, and Xelha.
Mayan Riviera is famous of its natural wonders, including the Belize Barrier Reef, accommodating attractions that are related to snorkeling, diving or such. Often a place where storm and hurricane approaches, the district is mostly composed of flat terrain with tropical jungles, typical of places around equator line. To reach the area, people must first come through Cancun International Airport, near Playa del Carmen.

A Historical City Named Xel Ha
Stemming from the Mayan language, Xel (spring) and ha (water), xel ha acted as one of the most prominent ports in Ancient Maya, holding a role as trading place.
Xel ha is located at the south of another Mayan Civilization’s site, Xcaret, and was used by Francisco de Montejo, a Spanish conquistador, as Spanish base when he firstly attempted to conquer the area.
Situated at the eastern coast of Yucatan Peninsula, xel ha’s establishment date remains unclear and it was a place where Mayan people used to use in trading with other people that in turn was the precursor of conquest of Spanish.

Another Mayan’s Walled City, Xcaret
What is now known as Quintana Roo, Mexico, was a trading site of Mayan people in the past, xcaret. A walled city just like Tulum, this city has a wall completely sealing it from the attacks coming from the sea, acting somewhat like a protective barrier for the city.
Archaeological findings and documents show that xcaret once was a very active place economically. Also worth noted, the documents revealed the marriage between the rulers of the city with other cities’ people, thus xcaret might be also politically active and important back then.
In recent times, the city has turned into one of the most prolific tourism destination in Mexico.

Revealing the Secret of Tulum
During its reign, The Mayan had built several sites that in nowadays have become world’s most renowned tourism destinations. Tulum is one of those.
Tulum was once named Zama, that is City of Dawn. This site is a walled city, located in Yucatan Peninsula, at the beach of Caribbean Sea. In the city, there is also a pyramid called El Castillo (not to be confused with the one at Chichen Itza.)
As one of the most visited sites in Mexico, Tulum’s tourisms briefly suffered from a temporary suspension due to the catastrophe caused by hurricane Roxanne in 1995 although the destruction was less devastating.

World Class Heritage Site: Chichen Itza
chichen itza, meaning at the mouth of the well of Itza in Yucatec Mayan, is the most visited tourism destination in Mexico.
Spanish conquistador, Francisco de Montejo, is the first European who conquers chichen itza whose first attempt was not so successful although he made it to establish a small community there.
The landmark of this now-defunct Mayan capital city is El Castillo, a pyramid with its top being cut, leaving a small flat summit on it. in 2007, chichen itza’s El Castillo made its way to include into the New Wonders of the World, resulting the significant increase of tourists visitation.

Interesting Facts of Playa del Carmen
Formerly a fishing town, playa del carmen (or simply Plaaya in Modern Mayan language) is named after Our Lady of Mount Carmel – a patron saint of Cancun.
What has become the main attractive point of playa del carmen is its beautiful scenery since it is located just at the seashore of Caribbean Sea which itself is the most exotic location of tourism in America.
The cultural aspect of the town of playa del carmen is depicted in telenovela and it is also a place from where a famous soccer club originates, Inter Playa del Carmen, founded in 1999. Also, the city has three sister cities, two in The U.S., and one in Italy.
